Our Topic Learning:
This term our topic was based on the novel The Wreck of the Zanzibar by Michael Morpurgo.
In this term we have been learning about what life was like on board ship for sailors in the late 1800′s and the jobs they did on board ship. We discussed whether it was fair that girls were not allowed to sail and the different expectations for girls and boys and how this differs today.
As part of our literacy, we advertised for crew to sail the ship. We have learnt how to read and create our own maps, using 4 figure grid referencing to locate different locations from our key. From a science aspect, we found out where the water in rain and storms comes from by learning about the water cycle.
ICT
In ICT we have been making a class IIP book developing skills such as inserting photographs and resizing them to fit in our document. We have focused upon the need to keep fonts consistent in our publications as we are all working on different pages in the book.
Art
In art we made posters advertising for crew to sail the ships. As a homework task we made our own version of the Island of Bryer with support and assistance from carers and parents. The models look FANTASTIC! Photographs will be on the site shortly. A huge thankyou to all of you who have helped to make them. The children were really excited and there will be an exhibition in school soon.
