In October the children in Year 4 visited the Maritime Museum and the Museum of Liverpool to kick start our topic on ‘Liverpool Gateway to the World’. We learned about people coming to Liverpool to settle, past and present and people leaving Liverpool to live elsewhere.
We learnt about immigration from Ireland, as a result of the potato famine and the reasons for the establishment of a Chinese community in Liverpool. We also learnt about emigration to the ‘New Worlds’ in the 19th and 20th centuries.
We ended our trip with a visit to Liverpool’s Chinatown to learn more about the history and culture of the city’s Chinese Community.
